"I'm a Lady" is a song by American singer and songwriter Meghan Trainor. It was released on February 24, 2017, through Epic Records and Sony Music Entertainment for the upcoming movie, Smurfs: The Lost Village. The song was written and co-produced by Trainor and Martin Renea, with additional production being handled by The Monsters and the Strangerz.
Trainor announced the song at the 2016 KIIS-FM Jingle Ball, saying "It's an upbeat, 'love yourself' woman anthem. It goes like...'Cause I'm a lady...and then the BEAT DROPS!' It's pretty fire." Prior to "I'm a Lady"'s release, Trainor teased the song and the music video on her social media accounts. She announced the release date on February 21, 2017.
Mike Wass of Idolator stated that is a "return to the retro-pop of Title—albeit with the same verve and attitude that marked the Thank You era" and went on to say "the cute bop has a positive message and a campy spoken interlude towards the end."
Keeping in line with her consistent theme of female empowerment, Meghan Trainor has released the music video for her latest single, "I'm A Lady" (Mar. 3). The song will be featured on the soundtrack of Columbia Pictures' upcoming 3D animated feature Smurfs: The Lost Village.
The video itself features the "All About That Bass" singer in multiple costume changes and blonde hairstyles, leading jam sessions with either an all-female band or all-female back-up dancers. Trainor models the same feisty enthusiasm and a similar directing scheme showcased in the video for her 2016 post-bubblegum pop anthem "No".
The visuals also take on the sentiment of a Pepsi Super Bowl commercial, as Trainor is seen holding a football and wearing shoulder pads and athlete's eye black makeup.
